Response: Why These SMBs Say No To SEO

CafeYou would think that small business owners would love to have first page listings on Google’s search engine results, wouldn’t you? According to an article written on InformationWeek.com on July 13th, (search engine optimization or SEO) is worthless to small businesses. We tend to disagree and are more than happy to respond to the article in a proactive way.

Let’s start with the second paragraph. It states that some business owners are upset with SEO vendors and companies that pitch astronomical rankings with a direct impact to the bottom line. We agree with the business owners. There should be a clear understanding that SEO doesn’t yield high rankings over night or a huge bump in bottom line figures, it is something that requires A LOT of time and strategizing. SEO is a delicate tool that requires long hours and constant attention. Sure, you can quickly change your meta tags or layout of your site, but it’s the authentic, ever-changing content that gets you the results you desire.

4 Ways to Create Memorable Content

Tree with Bat House1. Read or watch something you remember from your past, whether it be a comic book, cartoon, television show, or book. This will allow you to see things a different way without being influenced by the same thing everyone else is stuck on. Looking to the past will allow you to understand the elements that stood up to the test of time and what still captivates and commands attention.

2. Stop reading and doing what others tell you. Your 5th grade police officer was right. Peer pressure and influences will get you nowhere. We’re not saying to totally block out the world, but there are a lot of opinions out there, and you need to be sure to listen and take your own path. Be a leader and think for yourself when it comes to writing, executing, strategizing, and making decisions. Trust us, original content gets noticed.

Marketing Using the Interest Graph

PinsWhat interests you? Well, that’s a great question, especially for companies wanting to learn what really pulls at their customer’s heart strings. As briefly discussed in the thank you economy, the interest graph is a new way to develop connections based on what people like, not who they know. It gives marketers the chance to demonstrate human-like qualities, by giving them the ability to dial in on what people really enjoy, like baking, hunting, rowing, or scrap-booking.

Digital Advertising and the 2012 Presidential Campaign

Lincoln MonumentWe all remember 2008 when President Barrack Obama’s campaign used social media so effectively in the pursuit of victory. His team was able to target, engage, and connect with the voting public in a way that nobody had seen before . Fast forward to 2012, the Internet is a much smarter machine with more effective uses, like digital advertising

BroadbandBreakfast.com recently wrote an in depth article outlining several topics on how the different parties are using digital media in their campaigns, along with how they may continue to leverage these tools in the future. BroadbandBreakfast.com had a panel discussion on the subject with professionals at RealClearPolitics.com, ClickZ, Targeted Victory, Google, and Facebook.

The panelists started with a common understanding that online political persuasion ads are becoming a key part in campaign strategy, especially in the first election cycle. Where you see lots of TV ads now, these platforms will sell out fast and more campaigns will move their investments online. Rob Saliterman, a Senior Account Executive for Elections and Issue Advocacy at Google explained that campaigns will begin to realize the return on investment in digital advertising.
